This was used for "Violence in our Schools" single cover
part II of "Violence iin our Schools" single cover art
Fun Fact: The single cover for "Violence in our Schools" was inspired by an old "Time Magazine" article from 1989
A different font was used during pre-production
"Glock" was just short enuff on the page which was perfect for all the album info
Buggabear originally had short stubby arms consisting of balls
Froggit was originally gonna have thin red lines for legs
Original concept art for "5 Card Stud"
Inner sleeve Concept art
Angel of Mercy was originally gonna be the last song but, didn't follow the standard 4/4 timing
Concept Cover art
Back Cover Concept art. Fun Fact "The Urn of Faith" was orignally meant to be a bonus track
Back Cover Concept art inspired by DOWN - N.O.L.A.
These were Deleted because one picture was really all I needed
I originally wanted to do the entire bridge/outro to "Steppin' in the Way", but I decided that the reader doesn't need 5 copies of the same picture just with different words
The animation just didn't fit. This scene looks like it takes place at 7:30 p.m., while the rest of the scene takes place at 5:30
This scene was better summed up in 4 words - "You're going downtown, Bucko!" - says all it needs to say
deleted for pacing
Too much dialog, plus most of it was already in the text and would've taken away from the artwork.
This was shortened down to just the last part because I felt it made the scene more iconic that way
I'll give You 3 guesses what thrash metal album cover I'm trying to rip off here
Just not as dramatic or emotional as the version that actually made it into the comic
Melvin's place was originally gonna have scaffolding, but I decided to leave it out because it was harder to animate
alternate version of "when Melvin met Rat Fink" that was originally gonna take place in 1988 instead of 1990
I didn't need 2 copies of the same picture
This is an alternate version of the "Megadude has a Gun Dick" scene. I felt the close up version was a alot more dramatic and therefore funny
Starry Sparkles looked terrible here
I felt the series wasn't ready to introduce the "Maniac 5000" because I hadn't even worked on "Wizard of Death" yet at the time
The original cover was gonna feature Rat Fink, but I felt it best to keep their Mutations a mystery until the 2nd one
I opted for something a little more "Quick and to the Point"
This would've wasted the reader's time
An alternate version of the "Sludge Pit" scene. A whole conversation was gonna take place with just this one picture
This would've taken too long
I just wanted to get to the "Christina Sixteena" scene already
I had no idea how the hell I was gonna do animation for this scene at the time
Alternate Verion of the "Texico City News" scene
Fun Fact: The "Creature Teacher" grafitti was meant as a bit of foreshadowing for the character "Katey Jay"
With Crelvin screaming "MELVIN!" My ADHD was very much reflected in Mutant Melvin
Fun Fact: The Fire Alarm acts as a door bell
Extra detail that was not needed for this scene
Deleted for pacing
The font was changed to something more legible
Altenate version of the "Sludge Pit" Scene
The iconic dialog was later added in digitally
I was originally gonna have Mayor Ray Gun thwack himself in the head which causes Him to fall into the Sludge Pit
Fun Fact: The Sludge Pit was orignally meant be circular, a square was just easier to animate
Fun Fact: This entire scene was influenced by something i saw in an episode of "Hannah Montana" (don't ask how I know that)
I orignally came up with the T-Shirt BEFORE I wrote the scene
The dialog was added in digitally
The "Biffman" logo was later added in digitally
Rat Fink's dialog was changed to something more legible
as you can see, I wrote the scene as I was illustrating it
I even wrote the usher's dialog when illustrating it
I was originally gonna have Melvin and Ratfink sort of "MST3K" Biffman and then get kicked out by the theater usher. I went with a slightly different ending
EXT. "The Grove" concept art
I decided to wait until AFTER Melvin & Rat fink fled the scene to reveal the cover up
"Melvin, WAKE UP" scene without the hoodie
2nd "Sludge Pit" concept - this time: a hexagon with stairs
"The Sludge Pit" was originally gonna be round
The Sludge Pit's final form. It was just easier to draw
I was originally gonna give Christina Sixteena Red (or Green) knee-high socks like the nanny from "Muppet Babies"
"The SludgePit" was not only gonna be round but also have stairs in the back. I realized how illogical that would be.
Too much reveal. I decided to keep His mutation a mystery and include the part about a cover up FOR MORE DRAMATIC EFFECT
Christina Sixteena concept art
Fun fact: Christina Sixteena was originally gonna be modelled after Anne Hathaway in "Princess Diaries"
More "Sludge Pit" concept art
This is what I ultimately decided on for the face
Christina Sixteena was originally gonna have glasses
This is what I'd ultimately decided on for Christina Sixteena
I originally gonna have a whole entire thing with "King Jeffy", but I wanted to get to the point, already
The hands were drawn seperately, then later added in digitally.
The couch was drawn seperately, then later added in digitally
This made no grammatical sense so I changed it to "what the fuck WAS I sleepin' through"
"Disco Hour of Power" was later added in digitally
even funnier when colorized
Fun Fact: The "3" was inspired by "Mortal Kombat 3"
Fun Fact: The Hands were inspired by the intro to "Streets of Rage 2"
Alternate wake up scene where I was gonna have Melvin looking all dishevled.
I was gonna have this entire scene illustrated, but I decided "1 frame should be enough"
this was completely deleted
I decided to show Him smiling to make it MORE disgusting for not just Melvin, btu the reader, as well
i cannot draw people inside of a vehicle to save My life
What's funny is this line actually made it into the final comic.
Dialog was later added in digitally
The Top part turned out darker when I upped the contrast
Original Concept art for the cover
I was orignally gonna have Melvin and Rat Fink side by side
It made to sense to have them slightly sepearate so you could pay attention to who was speaking
Extra detail not needed
extra detail not needed
Extra detail makes it look like He's saying it twice
recycled footage from "Mutant Melvin II"
Fun Fact: The cover art was inspired by the "Dead Pool" stage from "Mortal Kombat II" and Megadeth
Miss Frederick was later added in
Alternate Grove scene

Alt Scene 1 - I am your future with no past
Alt Scene 2 - This bus stop was harder to animate
Alt scene 3 - This corner shot with the chair was difficult so I had Dollar Bill stand up instead
Alt scene 4 - There's only half a chair, plus the devil horns just look silly
Alt scene 5 - This corner shot was never gonna make it
deleted scene 1 - Blisters - it was just unneccessary
Deleted Scene 2 - Texico City Bus Stop
I had to lose the diving board plus I never animated Melvin without a shirt on
No pun intended but their hands looked Mutated
